Description of the job

A vacancy for a Specialist on Surface Technology/Surface Treatments of metals and thermoplastic / thermoset composites (m/f) has arisen within Airbus (Commercial Aircraft) in Bremen at the earliest possible start date. You will join the team “Structural Paints & Treatments” within the Engineering department Materials, Processes and Tests.

Airbus has taken a lot of effort for the development and deployment of surface preparation processes of different substrates (e.g. metals & thermoset/thermoplastic composites) prior painting or bonding for use on existing and future aircraft. To further strengthen the team, we are looking for candidates with skills on Surface Technology / Surface Treatment. The job holder will work within a transnational team and will have interfaces with stakeholder from different functions. The job holder will act as task leader for product and process developments and qualifications.

The job is based in Bremen, Germany. Travelling and daily practice of English language are part of the job and should be appreciated by the candidate. The job holder will report to the head of the department and to dedicated project leader.

Tasks & accountabilities

The main tasks and responsibilities will include

·  Assessment of different Surface Treatment technologies
·  Develop, qualify and implement eco-efficient materials & processes to ensure Airbus production needs including compliance with Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) regulations
·  Define test programs, support testing and prepare test reports as basis for decision
·  Specify and verify materials and processes performance & quality data as basis for certification
·  Preparation of Technical Specifications (Process Specifications, Material Specifications, Test Methods) for development and implementation in design and procurement
·  Cooperate with product & technology supplier and institutes/universities
·  Perform root cause analysis on production issues based on Materials & Process expertise
·  Expertise into operational support for production, design and in-Service functions

Required skills

We are looking for candidates with the following skills and experience:

·  Graduated in materials science, chemistry, chemical or material engineering or similar
·  In minimum 2-3 years of experience in Surface Technology/Surface Treatment (preferably), Material Science or equivalent
·  First experience in project management
·  Very good communication and analytical skills
·  Ability to work in co-located international teams
·  Knowledge of MS Office (essential)
·  Negotiation level of English and advanced German language skills
