Summary
The Engineer I/II, Heaters will be responsible for the research, analysis, design, development, debugging and modification of Heating Equipment such as drain masts, inline heaters, heater hoses, heated manifolds & valves and insulation for the commercial aerospace industry. Using sound engineering principles, this engineer will work to ensure robust, airworthy designs.
Competencies
To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following competencies:
• Analytical – Product efficiency, transient and dynamic operating and load conditions. Design maturity and reliability analysis. Ability to gather information, analyze it and effectively present the data to supervisors/management.
• Design – Strong engineering foundation in one or more disciplines such as electrical, thermal, electromechanical, aerodynamic, structural, and aerospace fields with knowledge of material selection, heater and insulation selection and heater design principles. Translates concepts and information into detailed heater and insulation design data. Experience with heater electrical design is a plus.
• Technical Skills – Ability to use and create simulation tools. Experience in laboratory testing, instrumentation setup and data analysis. Ability to review critically the design features and tolerances affecting critical performance. Experience in aerospace regulations such as RTCA/DO-160 and SAE Aerospace Standards guidelines. Knowledge in major aerospace OEM heater and insulation design guidelines.
• Interpersonal Skills – Possess a strong work ethic and commitment to excellence. Ability to listen and communicate, and to work effectively in a team environment. Ability to develop time management skills that are required for a demanding development environment. Ability to make timely/sound decisions and accurate judgments is essential.
Job Requirements
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Responsible for the technical development of small/medium heater products for Water & Waste systems
• Analyze customer requirements and validate them by analysis/modeling/prototyping or based on existing product performance
• Create and maintain hardware requirements specification and hardware interface control documents
• Create verification plan for validating product compliance to requirements
• Able to interface independently with technical analysts to define the product design
• Able to interface independently with existing and/or new suppliers and OEMs
• Performs sub-component selection and analysis of design performance margin
• Performs component selection & obsolescence management
• Creates design tools to help define the product design, capture lessons learned and improve the heater and insulation development process
• Creates hardware design document that covers design analysis, notes, and specific guidelines to be followed
• Create design verification test procedure (DVTP) and report (DVTR)
• Perform product performance testing and analysis to ensure that requirements are met and generate test reports
• Independently finds or creates solutions to problems requiring research, resourcefulness and creativity
• Creates qualification test procedure (QTP) and report (QTR)
• Supports feasibility, development, validation, verification, and qualification testing at Carson and at external test laboratories.
• Develops and validates acceptance test procedures (ATP) consisting of visual and dimensional inspections, functional testing, proof pressure testing, etc. for the ease of testing in a manufacturing setting
• Utilizes sound technical problem solving to support ongoing projects
• Follows sound engineering principles to ensure designs meet airworthiness standards, customer requirements and Safran WWS internal standards
• Processes engineering changes in the development of water and waste systems and equipment
• Provides input to program and project managers
• Understands, follows, and promotes Safran WWS policies and procedures
• Other duties as assigned
