The department “Instrumental Analytics” is part of Chemical Rare Reagents, Early Development and Reagent Design Reagent Design of Roche Professional Diagnostics. Technology focus is in mass spectrometry (MS), nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR) and liquid chromatography (HPLC) for qualitative and quantitative analytics of diagnostic targets, special chemicals and biopolymers. This includes the characterization of raw materials and also the quantification of targets in complex matrices.

Task of this postdoc position is the development of procedures for the characterization of small and mid-size molecule reference materials. The procedures include the chemical characterization and absolute quantification by instrumental analytical methods, mainly based on NMR. Additional knowledge of mass spectrometry, HPLC and statistical evaluation of the data completes your scientific profile.

Targets for the detailed analytical characterization of structure and impurities are substances relevant for clinical diagnostics like therapeutic drugs, vitamins, steroids, peptides and other small molecules.

Reference material characterization must be based on internationally accepted guidelines (e.g. ISO-Guides 30-35, WHO guidelines for clinical reference materials, the ISO-Guide for the Expression of Uncertainty in Measurement).

·  You hold a PhD in chemistry, pharmacy or physics.

Your qualification should be clearly demonstrated by at least one first author paper published or accepted in a high-quality journal during your PhD.

We can trust in your special knowledge in structure elucidation of complex organic molecules with different analytical techniques (e.g. NMR, MS, HPLC, IR).

You have profound hands on experience in NMR measurements and interpretation of small molecules.

Additional expertise in quantitative method development is highly requested.

· 
Good knowledge in statistics is a plus.

· 
You should be capable to oversee, perform and coordinate the characterization process in terms of physical, chemical and analytical methods, statistics, quality regulation and documentation.

Very good communication and interpersonal skills are your strengths. In addition you are sensitive to intercultural and interdisciplinary issues.

Working in a team is natural to you.

You already demonstrated personal flexibility and the capability to work independently.
