Role Summary/Purpose

The Mechatronics and Automation Engineer will be part of the GE Additive Customer Success team in Munich, working with metal powder bed 3D printers. You will be responsible for architecting and realizing mechatronic and automation solutions at the prototype and product sub-system level. The role involves both hands-on work & interacting with engineering service providers on microcontroller and processor based systems, servo & motion control & mechatronic systems.
Essential Responsibilities

In the role of Mechatronics and Automation Engineer you will: 

·  Independently develop automation solutions supporting the industrialization of metal 3D printing 
·  Design, program, simulate, and test automation solutions for mechatronic systems 
·  Select components and program software for systems based on programmable logic controllers 
·  Develop validation protocols 
·  Troubleshoot equipment problems and perform complex system tests 
·  Plan, coordinate, and lead automation activities with outside engineering service providers 
·  Develop and realize machine-machine communication 
·  Automate data acquisition 
·  Motion control for multi-axes machines 
·  Perform system risk analysis 
·  Execute 3D additive build jobs 
·  Run root cause analysis 
·  Interact directly with internal and external customers 
·  Support the Customer Success product safety team on customized solutions
Qualifications/Requirements

·  minimum of 2-3 years of related work experience  
·  Engineering degree in Electronics, Mechanics, Computers, Mechatronics or similar 
·  Experience designing electrical control systems for automated machinery 
·  Experience programming PLCs and HMIs 
·  Experience with design of control systems including drafting and development of control system architectures, writing custom specifications, selecting components, and developing process control descriptions 
·  Demonstrated automation accomplishments in development, manufacturing, engineering, and manufacturing support 
·  Fluency in German and English
Desired Characteristics

·  Experience in software and data analytics 
·  OPC-UA experience or similar machine-to-machine communication protocol 
·  Familiar with sensing and selection of sensors 
·  Experience in performing assessments of complex mechatronic systems 
·  CAD experience 
·  Experience with B&R products 
·  Understanding of relevant electrical requirements and machine safety standards e.g. ISO 13849 
·  Knowledge of global industry safety codes, standards / regulations 
·  Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with different disciplines 
·  Willingness to travel ~10%-20%, mostly to GE Additive site in Lichtenfels 
·  Basic knowledge and experience of additive technologies (polymer and/or metal) 
·  Able to work independently and as part of a team 
·  Ability to perform well both under pressure and as a problem solver
