Maxxam Analytics, a Bureau Veritas group company has an exciting and challenging opportunity for a Microbiology Department supervisor in Novi, Michigan. The Microbiology Department processes a diverse range of media and materials, ranging from air samples (including spore traps and culture media), to surface and bulk samples (including tape lifts, dust, and building materials like drywall, ceiling tiles and carpet). The department also works with our Consumer Products group to identify mold growth/colonization on toys, garments, home goods, and various other items.

The selected applicant should have a strong background in mycology, preferably with a Master’s degree or equivalent experience. The majority of service offerings are based on the direct analysis of materials. The applicant should know how to identify common fungal genera (such as Cladosporium, Aspergillus, Penicillium) by the recognition of fungal structures (such as spores/conidia, hyphae and spore-producing structures).The position requires proficiency in microscopy techniques and culture analysis. Knowledge of bacterial techniques and/or molecular or other diagnostics assays may represent possible growth opportunities for the laboratory.

In addition to laboratory analysis, the Microbiology Supervisor will be responsible for the day-to-day business and operational needs of the department. Additional responsibilities include:

· Responding to client calls and emails regarding sampling and data interpretation.
· Supervising department analysts.
· Ensuring timely turn-around of client sample results.
· Maintaining a quality assurance program with the necessary elements for laboratory accreditation.
· Maintaining laboratory equipment and supplies.
