Applied Scientist / NLP

Do you want to join an innovative team of researchers who use machine learning and statistical techniques to solve natural language problems at Amazon? Are you excited by the prospect of analyzing and modeling terabytes of data and creating state-of-art algorithms to solve real world problems? If yes, then you may be a great fit for the Amazon Machine Learning Science group in Berlin.

The ML team innovates algorithms to drive automated decisions at scale in all corners of the company, including our eCommerce site and subsidiaries, Amazon Web Services, Seller & Buyer Services and Digital Media including Kindle.

We are looking for scientific leaders with a passion for Natural Language Processing. Applicants should have an outstanding academic track-record and publications in top-tier conferences and journals. Experience in the areas of machine translation, discourse analysis, and computational semantics is preferred.

Major responsibilities:
· Track general business activity and identify opportunities to improve our products and services.
· Research and implement novel machine learning and statistical approaches to solve natural language problems that matter to our customers.
· Work closely with software engineering teams to productize scalable algorithms and deploy models.

Desired profile

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

· Ph.D. in NLP, ML, Statistics or another highly quantitative field.
· Publications in top-tier NLP and ML conferences and journals.
· 3+ years of recent development experience in Java, C++ or other high-level programming language.
· Strong sense of ownership and drive.
· Strong communication skills.
