Preliminary Design & Costing Engineer (d/f/m)

within Concept Design & Analysis has arisen within Airbus Defense and Space in Manching.

The Airbus Defense & Space Airpower Concepts Department (Future Projects Office - FPO) represents Engineering within the engineering Function and continuously imagines the Future, sparking ideas and evolving them into new concept solutions and capabilities to shape the Future of Military Aviation.

The conceptual designers, engineers and aircraft model developers work each day to bring aircraft concepts for today and tomorrow to life. These aircraft support critical global security missions and advance the future of aviation and technology.

Our team leads concept design and analyse activities to fill the design spaces with Overall Aircraft Concepts in line with all requirements and constraints. For that you will be working on a large variety of projects and tasks in a multi-disciplinary context from aerodynamics, weight, performance to costing.

For that we need highly motivated open minded people who love to drive innovation and are dare enough to promote wacky ideas.

The successful candidate will join the Airpower Concepts team in Manching, a young and highly motivated team who has fun at work, working for example on the F uture C ombat A ir S ystem (FCAS) Project.

Your tasks and responsibilities

·  Development of parametric cost models by evaluating existing data, re-engineering of in-service implementations and analyse competitor systems, capable of estimating non-recurring and recurring cost of innovative new overall system concepts for future military flying, weapon-, reconnaissance- and training systems.
·  Provide parametric Cost and Affordability estimates for concepts, architectures, systems and technologies for future military aerial platforms, fleets and operational scenarii
·  Overall Aircraft Conceptual Design, modelling and analysis of innovative new overall flying system concepts for future military applications. [Defining the best integrated product by external & internal shape definition, computer aided configuration design (CAD), mass estimation, propulsion and subsystem selection, aerodynamic, flight performance, integration and placement of subsystems, taking into account requirements and standards.]
·  Develop and analyse evolutionary incremental developments and future aircraft solutions in an iterative process in close interaction with relevant stakeholders in the centre of competences as well as with internal and external partners & customers.
·  Identification of key technologies / enablers, evaluation of new technologies with respect to overall aircraft impact and usability in our concepts
·  Support the analysis of military operational requirements and the translation into technical requirements for future systems
·  Support marketing and sales campaigns, incl. conceptual analysis of competitor systems, re-engineering and compare competitor effectiveness

Desired skills and qualifications

We are looking for candidates with the following skills and experience:

·  Fluent in German & English; French / Spanish language skills would be a plus
·  High degree of motivation and curiosity for aviation
·  Master’s Degree in Aerospace Engineering, Math, Data Science, or equivalent with several years of professional / job experience
·  Ability to work in international integrated multidisciplinary teams and willingness to travel
·  Excellent networking and resilience skills
·  Knowledge about Systems Engineering and preliminary (military) aircraft design / systems
·  Experience with Software solutions like MS-Office, Programming languages, other development and project management tools would be a plus
·  CATIA V5 – experience in design and surfacing, CFD, NASTRAN knowledge would be a plus
·  Experience with Software solutions like PRICE „True Planning“ and 4Cost „Aces“
·  Experience in parametric cost estimation

Compensation level is EG10 / EG11 if a minimum of 3 years of specific work experience and all required skills are met.

This position will require a security clearance or will require being eligible for clearance by the recognized authorities.
