ABOUT THE ROLE
We are currently recruiting a Technical Operator within our Supply Chain, Manufacturing team.
The Technical Operator is responsible for the operation, maintenance, improvement and repair of equipment to support the delivery of operational KPIs (Productivity, Quality, Safety, Health and Environment, Cost, Delivery, Morale, Innovation & Sustainability). Working within a team the Technical Operator will drive excellent standards of production delivery and continuous improvement, whilst always maintaining a safe and sustainable environment. She/he will be required to champion specific skills and have the ability to analyse, problem solve and coach others.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
· Technical - Knowledge and application of technical skills to Operate, Maintain, Improve and Repair equipment. This allows production targets to be met safely, at the right level of quality and on time.
· Understand the principles of mechanism and motion and be able to conduct changeovers, basic repairs and adjustments (eg Cams, slides, bearings, belts and pulleys). Utilise appropriate lubrication regimes.
· Understanding of principles and application of pneumatics in the sourcing unit; able to conduct fault finding and basic repair.
· Understand basic Electrical principles within the Sourcing Unit (eg basic isolation procedures such as Lock Out/Tag Out, and Testing and Verification of Common Proximity Sensors.
· Safety - Utilise appropriate safety and environmental procedures for people, processes, materials, products and equipment to ensure a safe working environment for the whole team.
· Environment - Reduce costs due to waste and minimise impact to health, safety and the environment through working to eliminate waste and through the correct management of waste and hazardous materials.
· Quality - Ensure that all aspects of Quality within the area of responsibility are in accordance with local Quality procedures to protect and promote the brand and product. Lead Quality improvements with the team where appropriate.
· Leadership - Promote the development of a highly effective and autonomous team through strong communication, leading by example and conflict management, whilst keeping focused on goals and targets.
· Coaching – Champion specific skills within the team and coach them to others in order to drive excellence.
· Continuous Improvement - Use performance measures to identify and prioritise losses in production area. Apply rigorous Cost Deployment and the Zero loss concept to eliminate losses.
· Problem Solving - Has the ability to identify, prioritise and address problems using appropriate tools and techniques that eliminate recurrence.
· Production Output - Agree production plan targets and review performance in order to drive functional goals at individual and team level.
· Business Awareness - Understanding of the need to meet changing demands and the role of marketing and product innovation in growing the business and increasing the company's share.
· Administration – Collaborate with colleagues to arrange shift and break cover and induct new employees to ensure that team resources can meet operational requirements.
· Must be flexible within pattern of shift work to accommodate factory shutdowns, training courses etc.

KEY SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:
· 5 GCSE's or equivalent including Maths and English
· Intermediate I.T. Skills
· Relevant Manufacturing / Engineering Maintenance Qualification
· Problem solving skills to support fault finding
· Demonstrable Mechanical Aptitude
· Strong leadership and communication skills

PREFERRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:
· Experience working as part of a team in a busy manufacturing environment
· Experience of operating a production line
· Mechanical Engineering Discipline at Post Apprenticeship Skill level (as graded by national standards) would be advantageous
· Core Engineering Skills – Background in Maintenance, Bench fitting and/or machining
· Experience of manufacturing in a Fast-Moving Consumer Goods Company
· Experience as a team member within a project team with an awareness of project management tools and improvement techniques
