Job Overview and Responsibilities:

This position will have responsibility for developing, executing and interpreting analytical quantitation of additives in polymers to contribute directly to the development and synthesis of new products working with project teams and scientists. The chemist will develop and execute methods to fully extract additives from polymers. The chemist will also develop and execute quantitative methods for LC and GC with a variety of UV-Vis, CAD and other detectors, as well as structural elucidation based on Mass Spectroscopy data, under the guidance of senior scientists when in need. The chemist will write well-documented reports and communicate clearly with project teams and scientists. The chemist will work mainly for the Polymer Additives business and also for Mining Solutions business. The role will require extensive interactions with research and development, process development, plants, technical services and other members of the analytical department. 

SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES

·  Know the location of first aid and emergency response equipment, chemicals, and chemical documentation.
·  Obtain equipment or process specific safety training as necessary according to the specific hazards

Education and Experience:

·  A BS in Analytical Chemistry or related discipline (Chemistry, Biology, or Chemical Engineering) is required
·  A minimum of one year experience in an analytical lab in an industrial setting is preferred 
·  Prior experience in liquid chromatography (LC), ultra-high pressure LC (UPLC), gas chromatography (GC), and LC/GC combined with high-resolution mass spectrometry (MS) is preferred
·  Experience is also needed in solvent extraction and preparative methods for chromatographic analysis

Skills:

·  An understanding of the chemistry of polymer additives for polyolefins, the ability to develop quantitative methods for LC and GC with a variety of UV-Vis, CAD and other detectors, the ability to do structural elucidation based on MS data, and having utilized a number of different LC-GC-MS software
·  The abilities to work well in technical workgroups, write well-documented reports, and communicate clearly are required
