Department Description

The Health Safety & Environment group (HSE) is responsible for implementing programs and policies that comply with all local, state and federal HSE rules and regulations and continuously strive to reduce the incidence and severity of occupational injury and illness. The HSE department promotes a safe and environmentally friendly work environment through the integration of value added HSE programs, policies, and services.

Position Overview with Key Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities may differ among employees with same job title and may change over time in accordance with business needs.

The Environmental Associate is responsible for interfacing with all levels of the organization to ensure necessary and sustainable HSE systems, programs, procedures, training, work practices, and controls are developed and implemented to maintain compliance with applicable HSE regulations and address identified risks.

Key Functions:

Assists in the implementation and monitoring of company Environmental programs.

Develop and implement site Environmental documents and calendar

Maintain site environmental database and produce required Environmental reports.

Ensures compliance with all applicable federal, state and local Environmental regulations and permits.

Conduct and document required site sampling.

Track and document data for: air emissions & refrigerant use; water & waste water use; and waste activities.

Identifies resource conservation opportunities and assist in the implementation of energy, water and waste reduction programs.

Supports the ISO 14000, OHSAS 18000 and ISO 50000 Management system certification

Performs reviews of GMP documents to ensure Environmental risks and activities are appropriately captured.

Provides technical assistance and advice to operations managers and employees regarding environmental issues.

Respond to medical and hazardous spill emergencies as required.

Ensures the communication of Environmental matters to internal stakeholders.

Basic Qualifications

·  Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Engineering or Sciences or other applicable Environmental discipline
·  Experience with Current Good Manufacturing Practices (CGMP), Good Documentation Practices (GDP) and other applicable regulatory requirements
·  Good working knowledge of EPA regulations with experience with International Environmental Regulations

Special Working Conditions

·  Ability to work a flexible schedule that meets the needs of the business
·  Ability to gown to gain entry to manufacturing space

Preferred Qualifications

·  Prior experience in the Biotechnology Industries

·  Exceptional communication and problem solving skills
·  Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate in both verbal and written formats to a wide variety of audiences
