Samsung Mobile R&D Technology Strategy and Sourcing identifies innovative technologies that make Samsung the mobile industry leader and drives both the technical and business processes to validate and commercialize technologies. Our mobile products range from smartphones and tablets to wearables, mobile PC's, and smart home devices. The technologies range from platform hardware and software to user experience and services. The Manager of Technology Strategy and Sourcing will use their deep understanding of the mobile industry, technology, venture and research communities, and business to find, validate, and facilitate innovations into our global product programs. Responsibilities • Identify technology categories that Samsung should address and proactively identify potential use cases, technologies, and providers • Evaluate technologies, and propose appropriate actions to Samsung's executive decision makers. • Participate in global virtual teams to discover, evaluate, and commercialize technologies through both technology and business relationships • Serve as an industry subject matter expert in one or more mobile technology areas. • Collaborate with Samsung R&D, Product Planning, and Product Marketing to develop plans and pursue opportunities • Understand and influence Samsung Mobile's business & technology strategy and opportunities • Cultivate relationships with technology and investment communities • Understand industry and technology trends and challenges • Plan and execute internal and external Technology Sourcing events and workshops • Track competitors' strategy and market plans and provide timely competitive analysis to Samsung Mobile strategic planning teams • Develop market intelligence briefs and reports for use by Samsung product and planning teams • Define Proof-of-Concept projects and manage engineering for prototyping and validation of emerging technologies • Collaborate with other Samsung product-business units to identify cross-product line convergence opportunities

Desired profile

Necessary Skills / Attributes
Must have successful experience managing technology in R&D organizations with complex decision processes. • Must know how to successfully define and communicate the value of technologies to engineers and scientists, mid-level product and business management, and executive management. • Possess a deep knowledge of relevant technologies and the competitive dynamics of the mobile device industry • Experience finding and evaluating a broad range of relevant technologies (HW, SW, Services) • Computer vision and Augmented Reality product domain experience a significant plus • Experience in strategic R&D planning and/or Business Development • Strong personal network within the mobile industry and mobile start-up communities • Domestic and international travel is required • Minimum of 3 years of mobile product management experience • Bachelors degree in technology or engineering (Masters preferred, PhD a plus) • MBA or equivalent business experience
