The Summer @ Roche Intern Program has been developed to provide students with a fun yet rewarding summer through hands-on experience and numerous opportunities to network with other interns as well as employees in the organization. Additionally, we help our students meet their career development and educational goals while potentially building a future with the Roche organization. Leveraging the education you received already, we hope to give you an opportunity to grow and develop with us!

·  The intern will aid in the day-to-day efforts carried out by the Dev groups familiarizing themselves with concepts initially and then contributing to the group's production.
·  The position entails performing molecular biology techniques under supervision.
·  Laboratory responsibilities include performing agarose gel electrophoresis, executing polymerase chain reaction (PCR), next gen sequencing, and operating research automation, supporting Development staff in experiment design and execution, and maintaining results log.
·  The intern will communicate results to Development staff in technical meetings.

Additionally, the selected intern will be asked to participate in various intern activities, which may include workshops with leaders in the organization, our mentor program, and our Poster Symposium among other activities.

Qualifications

· 
Completion of two years of college and has college level experience chemistry and/or biology lab techniques

· 
Experience in Microsoft Excel

· 
Ability to clearly communicate with team members

Program Requirements:

· 
Currently enrolled in an accredited college/university during program calendar year 2019

· 
Completed at least 2 years of college/university to be eligible for the program.

· 
Must have a ≥3.0 GPA

· 
Minimum availability of 12 weeks (Required start on or before program Welcome Reception and end date on or after Summer End Poser Symposium).

· 
Previous experience in the job duties listed, either through course work or industry/academia

· 
Participation in student organizations and/or other leadership experience

What You Will Learn:

· 
The intern will be given a unique opportunity to contribute to in vitro diagnostics assay development.

·  The intern will be exposed to concepts such as PCR, manipulating reaction conditions, general automation of protocols, and experimental execution.
·  They will be exposed to basic statistical analysis and data presentation at a professional level.
·  Collaborating with experienced Assay Development scientists will provide the intern with a general expectation and understanding of the research world early in their career.
