The Molecular Targeted Therapeutics (MTT) group located in Basel, Switzerland, is a Small Molecule Oncology group in the Oncology Discovery and Translation Area (DTA) of Roche Pharmaceutical Research and Early Development (pRED). This group has been built to deliver cutting edge therapeutics focusing on the discovery of novel targets, targeting mechanisms, and synthetic relationships in the area of cancer genomics, signal transduction, and cancer relevant immunological targets.

During the internship you will:

·  Work closely with a Post-Doc who will act as a mentor
·  Perform tissue culture of cancer cells for use in molecular biology assays
·  Develop and perform assays to evaluate targets of interest for potential intervention using small molecules
·  Interrogate and characterize pathway changes that occur with knockdown or pharmacologic inhibition of the target and study how those changes relate to biological outcome
·  Analyze data and present results in a large group to your colleagues

We are looking for a highly motivated Master Student who will work closely with the MTT biologists supported by Roche's Small Molecule Research (SMR). You are in the process of finishing your University studies in a science based field, including but not limited to biotechnology, biology, biochemistry, pharmacology, molecular biology and immunology. You can adapt to a fast paced, changing environment where challenges are seen as opportunities with an openness and a willingness to learn even in the face of such opportunities.

What do you need in your toolbox?

·  Experience in tissue culture and primary cell culture
·  Experience in a range of molecular biology techniques including western blotting, qPCR, cell proliferation assays
·  Hands-on experience with standard molecular biology methods including siRNA, shRNA, CRISPR/Cas9
·  Experience with basic cellular assays to test oncology-relevant therapeutics would be a plus
·  Familiarity with interrogation of bioinformatics databases
·  Understanding of basic protein biochemistry
·  Scientific engagement and desire to explore novel scientific and/or technical areas
·  Excellent presentation and communication skills
·  Fluent in written and oral English
