Clinical Lab Accessioning Technician

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

·  Receipt and organization of specimens and associated test requisition forms (TRFs).
·  Performs all paperwork, technical and non-technical procedures required to process and submit specimens.
·  Entry of critical specimen information into the lab information management system (LIMS) following standard sequences/coding when entering data and corrects, edits, and/or verifies data entered into systems.
·  Preparation of specimens for storage or additional processing. Routing of specimens within the laboratory using proper procedures for Universal and BBP precautions.
·  Communicating internally with other departments (Client Services, Legal, QA, Warehouse) regarding issues with specimen labeling, shipping, forms, or quality issues in a PHI, HIPAA compliant manner.
·  Maintaining and stocking the physical environment of the lab for handling samples.
·  Cleaning and sanitizing workspaces. Emptying trash, biohazard and hazardous waste, in compliance with all Federal, state and local laws.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Formal Training/Education:

·  High school diploma or GED equivalency required
·  2+ years of post-high school education desirable
·  Medical vocational training desirable

Experience:

·  1 year laboratory or medical experience working in BSL 2 Environment with an understanding of blood borne pathogens and clean room practices
·  Experience working in an expanding, fast-paced, high complexity laboratory preferred

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

·  Demonstrated proficiency in using a computer and computer applications
·  Strong attention to detail, accuracy and commitment to quality
·  Proven ability to follow instructions and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
·  Excellent verbal and written communication
·  Ability to multi-task, work independently under general supervision and work as part of a team
·  Problem solving capabilities and demonstrated basic math skills
·  Able to work in a fast paced production environment to meet established turnaround times
·  Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time and perform repetitive duties
·  Strong memorization skills
·  Able to decipher relevance of information on requisitions
·  Have an understanding of HIPAA regulations and Universal Precautions when dealing with patient samples
