Microsoft has recently significantly expanded its efforts in artificial intelligence, creating the Artificial Intelligence and Research team, composed of 5000+ person globally. For our office in Munich, Germany, we are looking for an Applied Speech Scientist to complement the team under Xuedong Huang (http://bit.ly/Xuedong). Be part of a dynamic and versatile team working on applied research with direct impact on millions of customers. The overall Munich office is working on a variety of topics ranging from speech recognition verticals & adaptation to Deep Learning, from designing Conversational Agents to multi-modal modeling research, from enhancing the Microsoft Cognitive Toolkit to improving Bing search quality. We are seeking the best & brightest talent to help drive forward our overall impact on the space of Artificial Intelligence and Speech Recognition in particular. As an Applied Speech Scientist your responsibilities are to work closely with the Speech Research team (http://bit.ly/SpeechAndDialog) and evaluate research output for specific applications, as well as to contribute to our highly scalable and reliable speech services. We are looking for a candidate with background characterized by concrete contributions that have advanced the state of the art of either commercial or academic speech recognition systems. You will find great R&D opportunities on real data sets provided by one of the world's largest speech/online data feedback loop. You must have a track record of sustained thought leadership, leading innovation and creative vision. You are up to the technical & competitive challenges of a fast-moving technology impacting many of Microsoft's key businesses.

Essential Experience:

• Excellent software engineering skills and experience with C#/C++

• Research experience in AI and speech recognition with competence in machine learning, particularly in deep learning and/or reinforcement learning

• Experience working with large scale distributed computing

Personal Attributes/Interpersonal Skills:

• Ability to work independently as well as in teams of various sizes

• Excellent interpersonal oral and written communications skills

• Experience delivering results through collaboration across disciplines, feature teams, and partners

Desired profile

Qualifications:

• At least MSc in computer science but PhD would be preferred

• Minimum 3 years of related work experience

• Strong verbal and communication skills in English are required

This position is located in Munich, Germany and may require (1-2 times per year) travel within Europe, India, Asia, and the United States.
