WHO WE ARE AND WHAT WE DO

Powertrain Engineering is responsible for designing and developing world class engines,

transmissions, electrical motors, drivelines, powertrain systems and controllers which deliver the driving experience our customers love.

Powertrain utilises some of the most advanced techniques, facilities and knowledge to stay ahead of the competition. We understand and predict customer demand, and respond quickly to changing technological, environmental and legislative factors that drive the industry.

We provide the power and driving force behind our vehicles using state of the art facilities.

We shape our industry by finding the ideal balance between performance, sustainability, and

refinement.

The Apprentice in training for a Technician role will focus on internal combustion engines, hybrid and electric systems, propulsion technology and advanced control systems.

To enable consistency and accuracy in testing, measurement, methodology, and technology, the technician will be responsible for enabling the execution of test plans which fulfil the internal customer’s and facility’s requirements for quality, cost, time, function, safe systems of work and risk management. They will perform preparation, installation, modification, maintenance, and fault diagnosis of complex propulsion units under test across the various test cells within the propulsion function.

The Technician will assume a proactive role in test delivery, taking responsibility, for example, test script creating, editing, first line data analysis, and quality validation providing an essential link between the test function and the propulsion engineer.

In addition Technicians are the source of technical leadership within the test function and will support and engage with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, engineers, suppliers, external agencies and organisations to provide consistent build, development and quality assurance of the propulsion system.

WHAT TO EXPECT

You will undertake a modern apprenticeship under Trailblazer standards. This exciting programme will develop your practical skills and cultivate the knowledge required for your particular role in the business. This is all achieved whilst developing your behaviours, as we are not just interested in what you accomplish, but the manner in which you do it.

As well as gaining commercial and professional experience, you’ll also achieve academic and vocational qualifications and typically this could include working towards the qualifications below depending on role and experience:

Level 2 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Foundation Competence).

·
HNC Diploma in Automotive Engineering

·
HND Diploma in Automotive Engineering or equivalent if there is a more suitable qualification for your role

·
Level 4 NVQ Diploma in Engineering Manufacture

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

·
Maths and English Language GCSE C Grade or above (Grade 4-9.

·
In addition you will need another three GCSE’s including a Science, Engineering, Technology or an additional Maths subject at C Grade or grade 4-9 or above, or as an alternative to the additional three GCSEs an Engineering Vocational qualification level 3 of 90 credit value (540 GLH).

You will also need:

A Level Maths at C Grade or above
