Role Title: Risk Assessment Reporting Assistant Manager
Business: Operations

Grade: GCB6

Role Purpose
· An assistant management position playing a central role assisting the oversight, and execution of key activities within the risk assessment function. This will involve supporting the planning, co-ordination, independent challenge and delivery of all independent auditor's assurance reporting globally for the Chief Control Office Function.
· At a high level, the role holder is responsible for:
· Independent Auditor's Assurance Reporting – To assist the co-ordination of the independent auditor's assurance reporting globally from planning through to execution, engaging and supporting key stakeholders across the business throughout the process;
· Assurance & Monitoring – To assist the CCO function in the consistent design and delivery of a suitable risk based assurance and monitoring programme, by ensuring control exceptions identified in the independent auditor's assurance reporting are suitably tracked and assessed;
· Proactive Risk Management - Provide clear value-adding risk management outputs which will assist key business stakeholders and, where appropriate, clients, to manage their risk profile within appetite
· Relationship Management – To support Client Management with due diligence reviews, the promotion of the Operational Risk Management Framework and the delivery of client risk reporting through the provision of globally consistent material and where required attendance at client meetings/forums.


Key Accountabilities

Impact on Business

· Assist in driving management, coordination and execution of independent auditor's assurance reporting activities across HSS.
· Maintaining relationships with 2nd/ 3rd line of defence risk functions.
· Maintain relationships with the service auditor and key internal stakeholders.
· Maintain regular interaction with appropriate HSS/GBM internal colleagues.
· Assist with the provision of commercially based assurance reporting against relevant industry standards and external requirements.
· Ensure the independent auditor's assurance reporting is fit for purpose and executed as defined, and that escalation paths are adequate and effective.
· Support the production of globally consistent material for the support of client CCO Function activities.
· Support line management as a key point of contact for HSS independent auditor's assurance reporting and CCO Function support of Client Management activities.
· Evidence of an active role within the HSS COO function to set and execute best practice - feedback from management line, peers and stakeholders (360 feedback).
· Evidence of strong working relationships with the service auditor and key stakeholders across HSS, GBM, Global Functions, HOST
· Effective input to the delivery of the HSS independent auditor's assurance reporting, built on a strong understanding of HSS business requirements, capabilities, contractual commitments and industry standards.

Customers / Stakeholders

· Support the CCO and HSS senior management in ensuring the appropriate independent auditor's assurance reporting is in place and that risks that have been highlighted are managed appropriately.
· Work collaboratively across the Risk Assessment function and CCO peer group.
· Provide internal stakeholders with insight into CCO activities.
· Provide appropriate support and material for client related communications.

Operational Effectiveness & Control

· Ensure detailed understanding, communication and execution of independent auditor's assurance reporting.
· Support line management and the CCO Leadership Team in driving the independent auditor's assurance reporting across HSS, ensuring maximum awareness, management of issues/exceptions and overall impact on clients and the risk framework.
· Support management in ensuring that the issues/impacts of the control exceptions identified by the independent auditor's assurance reporting are understood by the business and the appropriate actions (and/or risk acceptance) have been put in place to manage residual risk within appetite.
· Aid the effective implementation or delivery of process and control improvements, as identified by ISAE activities, without impacting on business as usual processes.


Major Challenges
· Supporting management to ensure a diverse and complex risk, control and regulatory environment, in relation to ISAE reporting, that is continually developing/changing in scope and focus.
· Keeping up to date regarding external developments in global regulation, assurance reporting standards, market trends and competitor activity.
· Working with Client Management to support clients' assurance requirements.
· Managing the demands of the reporting timetable to ensure all deadlines are met in a consistent manner.

Role Context
· Primary functional and entity reporting relationship to the Manager, Risk Assessment, Global Assurance Reporting.
· Close working relationship with the relevant CCO teams at all levels.
· Close working relationships with relevant stakeholders and peers across GBM, and Group Functions (Risk & Control related).
· Key role in the HSS Risk Assessment processes and all related ISAE and Client Management related activities.

Management of Risk
· The jobholder will continually reassess the operational risks associated with the HSS businesses, taking account of changing economic or market conditions, legal and regulatory requirements, operating procedures and practices, management restructuring, and the impact of new technology. This will be achieved by ensuring all actions take account of the likelihood of operational risk occurring and addressing any areas of concern with the appropriate persons and/or department in line with risk appetite.

Observation of Internal Controls

· The jobholder will also adhere to, and be able to demonstrate adherence to, internal controls. This will be achieved by adherence to all relevant procedures, keeping appropriate records and, where appropriate, by the timely implementation of internal and external audit points, including issues raised by external regulators.

Qualifications :

Knowledge & Experience / Qualifications

·  Educated to undergraduate or post-graduate degree level (in Accountancy, Finance or related field), otherwise possess relevant industry experience.
·  Advanced Excel user – ability to build dashboards, macros, etc.
·  Good understanding of HSBC structures, processes and objectives, especially in the risk environment.
·  Working knowledge of the external environment (regulatory, political, competitors etc.).
·  Working knowledge of HSBC and GBM: functionally, operationally and financially.
·  Highly motivated self-starter with proven ability to work collaboratively within teams and to deliver on time.
·  Proven ability to articulate complex issues concisely and in clear language.
·  Use judgement to determine how to handle complex requests and varying timescales; make judgements quickly and consistently.
·  Good communicator with collaborative,inter-personal and influencing skills.
·  Proven abilities in working within virtual teams and across cultures in a global business context.
·  High level of professional and personal integrity.
