Role Summary/Purpose

As a Research Engineer in the Mechanics & Design Organization, you will contribute to the development of state-of-the-art applied fracture mechanics and life analysis methods, advanced test methods and engineering design tools for the GE businesses and their customers.
Essential Responsibilities

The Research Engineer will be a member of the Structural Mechanics and Lifing team and will participate in the design, development, prototyping and testing of mechanical hardware for high performance applications. You will work in a multi-disciplinary team contributing to the development and application of applied fracture mechanics and testing methods. Responsibilities will include: 

·  Execution in the primary focus area of life methods for CMC, barrier coatings and high strength / high temperature alloys
·  Collaborate with
GE business design communities in the development of component models, stress
analysis and life methods for advanced CMC, barrier coatings and metals
·  Provide technical
guidance and execution on critical programs and initiatives in the development
of advanced applied fracture mechanics methodologies, stress methods for high
strength metals and non-metals with key business partners
·  Participate in
technology roadmapping and competitive assessment to drive new technology
programs in computational or experimental methods for the design and lifing of
machinery and equipment
·  Provide technical
guidance and direction across the group to grow overall technical capability
and product knowledge in technical focus areas
·  Serve as a
technical resource to resolve key, short term high risk technical issues in
technical focus areas

Qualifications/Requirements

·  Doctorate degree
in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or related disciplines OR Master’s
degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related
disciplines with a minimum of 3 years of experience.
·  Experience in
applied fracture mechanics and damage model development.
·  Experience in
developing life prediction models and methods for high temperature single
crystal metals or ceramic matrix composites
·  Strong technical
skills in solid mechanics and finite element methods with commercial packages
such as ANSYS (including advanced meshing tools and non-linear analysis) for
life prediction.
·  Demonstrated
project leadership experience including successful track record of completing deliverables.
·  Clear evidence of
passion, innovation and creativity
·  Ability
to work under pressure and meet deadlines; execution mindset and sense of
urgency
·  Strong communication and teamwork skills and
ability to form and work in cross-functional and cross-organizational teams
