Role Summary/Purpose

The Marie Sklodowska Curie Innovative Training Network MAGISTER is a multi-disciplinary project providing research training in several technical areas e.g. data science, machine learning, etc. for aircraft engines. The research objective of MAGISTER is to predict & control accurately the combustion dynamics in an aircraft engine over the full range of technology readiness levels, by means of the application of machine learning on CFD simulations, laboratory experiments and full engine data.
Essential Responsibilities

Two research positions focusing on data science and combustion in aircraft engines are available at GE Aviation. The positions are limited to the 3 years of the PhD program with a salary in accordance to the Horizon 2020 Marie Sklodowska Curie guidelines.
As part of that you will: 

·  Focus on High Performance Computing within the Cloud environment
·  Select, validate and merge complementary data driven and physical models
·  Formulate and implement plans to achieve technical requirements, schedules and contract commitments
·  Develop novel dynamic high-fidelity data visualization methods on various media
·  Develop advanced User Experience (UX) concepts and implement for data science decision support
·  Interact with co-workers within GE Aviation Digital and Combustion Engineering communities, the MAGISTER project partners and the academic community to establish best practices and technical achievements
·  Monitor and communicate project status, business issues and significant developments
·  Participate as a presenter in technical and program reviews
Qualifications/Requirements

·  Master’s degree in Informatics, Engineering and Mathematics or equivalent
·  Excellence in data science, machine learning and data visualization 
·  Demonstrated excellent command in one or more programming language (such as GO, Node.js, Python, Ruby, R or similar) 
·  Demonstrated process orientation in approach to work with open, collaborative and innovative mindset
·  Excellent communication and influencing skills with the ability to communicate at a variety of levels, from detailed design reviews to high-level leadership reviews
·  Eligible to Horizon 2020 Guidelines by not having performed the main activity in Germany for more than 12 months of the 36 months before starting the position
·  Eligible to Horizon 2020 Guidelines by being in the first four years (full-time equivalent) of the research career, starting from the date of obtaining the degree which would formally entitle to embark a PhD study
·  Fluency in English
