EY’s Financial Services (FS) Tax practice provides tax compliance & reporting, advisory and transactions services to a variety of clients in the Financial Services market. Our team sits within our Global Compliance & Reporting practice and delivers on recurring projects that support our clients in meeting their tax reporting and compliance obligations.

The opportunity

As a Tax Advisor in our team, you can choose to work across one or more of our three sectors - Banking and Capital Markets, Insurance or Wealth and Asset Management – and you will have the opportunity to work on a diverse range of projects.  We run several large scale compliance & reporting engagements for global FS institutions which will give you exposure to our clients’ (and EY’s) global network.  That can be balanced with compliance work for smaller UK based clients where you can hone your tax technical skills.  Our tax audit base is growing significantly and you will see our clients’ end to end tax reporting processes in operation.  You will also provide ad-hoc tax advice to your portfolio of clients, and be responsible for managing the day to day client relationship.

Our client base is such that the job is, by its nature, different every day and we want someone who is actively looking for this challenge. An agile approach to working with different projects and people is therefore essential.

For the right candidate this role will be a springboard to a successful career in FS tax - we have an excellent track record of internal promotions (indeed this role has become available due to 5 internal promotions to manager).  Many of our tax advisors spend time on secondment to clients helping to broaden their experience.

·  Working with a wide range of junior technical staff
·  Providing insightful, industry specific advice to clients on a range of tax issues;
·  Ensuring a high level of client service;
·  Building relationships both within the firm and externally with clients, identifying opportunities and managing expectations; and
·  Actively looking to broaden the scope of work for existing clients and contributing to winning new clients.

Skills and attributes for success:
·  Excellent written and oral communication skills;
·  Experience in an FS tax environment (preferred, but not essential);
·  Relationship management skills with the ability to manage client expectations;
·  Project management experience;
·  The ability to identify areas of risk, carry out an effective review and know when to escalate;
·  Pragmatism and the ability to solve problems creatively;
·  A commitment to deliver results;
·  A desire to take on responsibility; and
·  The ability to motivate a team; delegate to, mentor and train junior staff and work with people from across the business.
To qualify for the role you must have:
·  ACA / ACCA / CA / CTA / law or equivalent qualification (or breadth of knowledge equivalent);
·  A thorough understanding of UK direct tax issues;
·  Experience of working in a compliance and reporting environment, focusing on one or both of UK Corporation Tax and UK Partnerships;
·  Tax audit experience

Ideally, you’ll also have
·  Project management skills, plan and prioritize work, meet deadlines, monitor own budget
