Job Description

Safety Engineer

Position Description
There’s a digital revolution underway in the UK that could use your help. From public service transformation to cutting-edge commercial projects, our work has a wide reach, helping make the everyday easier, for everyone. We’re recruiting a Safety Engineer to work on the FC BISA project within the Safety team and with the Design team, on a range of assurance activities for the FC BISA system, an established programme developing bespoke software solutions in fire control and battlespace management for the British Army.

When you start your CGI story, not only will you be improving people’s lives, you can be sure we’ll do the same for you. Alongside a competitive salary, we offer you access to our share scheme (3% + 3% matching) making you a member not just an employee. You also have the option to benefit from private medical and dental insurance, flexible retirement options, childcare vouchers and a cycle to work scheme.

Now, more than ever we are ensuring the continuity of critical services that matter and we are still recruiting during these challenging times. However, in some instances we will expect to see the recruitment process lengthened, with interviewing and hiring taking place at a later date. Please be assured that if you apply for a role, your interest will be registered and we will be in touch soon to discuss your application further. As for the future? We work as one team, and are a Top 100 employer. Be a successful part of our story and we’ll support you in taking your career anywhere you want it to go.

Your future duties and responsibilities
The FC BISA and FCA systems are deployed operationally and so the programme is managed as safety-related (LSL3) working to SIL2 development standards. CGI is currently developing a series of software releases planned for operational deployment and supporting in-service operational systems.

You will provide safety engineering expertise in assisting the production of the whole range of Safety Management System documentation. The Safety Case Report and Hazard Log require substantial development in support of the delivery of the FC BISA releases and this will require major updates to the safety documentation set.

Required qualifications to be successful in this role
It is expected that you will have previous experience in safety engineering, a broad background in software engineering, have (or be able to acquire) suitable safety qualifications to demonstrate you are SQEP (suitably qualified and experienced personnel), in addition to this you will have:
• Good communication skills and the ability to work with multiple teams across a large programme
• A broad understanding of software development lifecycle, from specification and design through to implementation, testing and assurance activities
• Good attention to detail for hazard analysis and documentation reviews
• Commercial awareness
• Experience of safety-related projects
• Technical writing skills
