CGI has been selected by a client to develop key safety and security features for their Iris system that will provide the satellite-based controller/pilot datalink required to support future air traffic management communications. The clients existing SwiftBroadband system will be enhanced with the extra reliability and protection required to support safety critical air traffic management (ATM) operations. We are responsible for developing ground-based gateways that will enable SwiftBroadband to interface with the European ATM network and incorporate security measures to protect the over-the-air communications link from cyber attack.

The enhanced systems will undergo rigorous validation and verification tests to assure that safety and security requirements are met, before entering further rounds of flight trials. We are also supporting the client in construction of their certification case for system approval with the European regulator, EASA. This involves system and segment level safety assessments / analysis and standards-based product assurance to the required integrity levels.

Our roles are only available if you hold or fulfil the criteria to obtain a UK Security Clearance.

Your future duties and responsibilities
The successful candidate will take responsibility for leading the technical design work for the implementation of an ICAO Aeronautical Telecommunication Network (ATN) based on the Internet Protocol Suite (IPS), referred to as the ATN/IPS. The Design Authority is the keeper of the design vision. The role involves making timely and decisive technical judgements to keep the Iris IOC design progressing towards the project and your personal objectives.

Specifically, for Iris IOC ATN/IPS implementation it is essential that you consider the cohabitation with ATN/OSI solution already deployed, as well as ensuring that security and safety is a fully integrated aspect of the overall design.

The responsibilities will include : own the Ground Segment systems and network design, maintain the ICDs, ensure that all development and test activities (including those of our subcontractors) are aligned with the design, lead design workshops with client and subcontractors, attend other meetings as requested by the Security Team, ensure that the technical programme remains within contracted scope and identify early where work will progress outside of scope, assess the technical impact of change requests, participate to the procurement process of some components of the solution, act as a focal point for key design decisions and for resolving internal design conflicts, and establish and maintain traceability from the requirements to the design.

Required qualifications to be successful in this role
Essential skills

• Proven track record in the design of complex systems

• Plan and conduct technical design reviews

• Ability to translate technical objectives into specific work packages and to track these objectively

• Formulate and review the system engineering methodology and standards

• Provide advice and direction to the technical team on the detailed technical work in the context of the overall project

• Develop good open relationships with the client and the subcontractors

Desirable skills

• IP network integration (including IPv6 and ISO OSI)

• IP network mobility solutions (including Mobile IPv6, proxy Mobile IPv6, Ground LISP, AERO)

• Secure system development

• Safety system development

Nice to have

• PKI and IPSEC

• Firewalls, proxies and content inspection

• Experience of designing network security barriers

• SESAR Architectures and ATN

• Satcom networks

• Aircraft security (e.g. ED-202 and ED-203)
