We are currently looking to recruit a System Engineer – Automatic Train Protection (m/f) in Mannheim, Germany.

Purpose of the job

As a System Engineer for Automatic Train Protection (ATP) System you will be responsible for the conceptual design and implementation of train control and protection systems and their integration into our vehicles. Co-operating with suppliers and customers, you will implement engineering solutions taking into account national approval requirements.

Main task will be the integration and upgrade of ETCS system in our locomotive fleet, including integration of National safety protection systems wherever applicable (e.g. PZB/LZB, Mirel, Indusi, SCMT, RSO-KVB-TVM, ZUB, Memor, TBL1+), in collaboration with major supplier.

Key responsibilities

• You will be responsible to define Concept, Functional Requirement Specification, Software Requirement Specification, Functional Test Specification, input for System Schematics and Bill of materials for the given subsystem

• Define and develop the appropriate technical solutions to integrate the ATP system fulfilling the requirements

• Prepare and define technical requirement specification for an ATP system according to customer requirement.

• Give technical support to our procurement network to guarantee the proper third party supply in the design and development of the requested ATP system architecture

• Define and develop the functional, reliability and maintenance requirements

• Design the electrical, mechanical, SW and HW interface

• Set and prove the safety requirements of the chosen solutions

• Define and develop the Integration of Human Machine Interface (HMI)

• Define testing requirement and support the system installation and testing phase

• Assume responsibility for a given subsystem design with Project framework to ensure execution

• You will be the main ATP interface for several projects and plattform in parallel. A strong leadership and coordination work is part of the daily job

• You will have the technical lead in Product development with Suppliers. Prepare Technical Requirement Documents, align technical solutions with supplier (Clause by Clause), support quality as technical responsible to follow up supplier’s design in Design Reviews and First Article Inspection, support Procurement to select proper supplier for Tenders and Projects

• You will be also responsible of the performance of your solutions in the field. Support to Operation during Manufacturing and testing, support Functional Test on Vehicle, supporting to Authorization Management to produce relevant technical Dossier , Assessment and Validation Report

• Reporting to Project Core Team and direct line Management

Qualifikationen

•University or College Degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering, Telecommunication Engineering or Computer science

•Design and integration of on board Automatic train protection systems,

•Development and integration of control systems within industry (railway, aerospace or automotive is preferred)

•System integration (electrical, electronic, mechanical architectural level)

•Knowledge of ERTMS/ETCS Subset_26, Subset_33, ERA_ERTMS_015560 and TS 50459 is preferred.

•Previous experience in railways is an asset

•Good communication skills

•Fluent in English and intermediate in German
