Job description

DESCRIPTION

The AWS Infrastructure group is responsible for procuring, setting up and operating all AWS infrastructure. This includes data center setup, equipment purchase, installation and operation of servers with power and cooling, inventory management and other such decisions. The supply chain automation research group within AWS infrastructure is building a new suite of tools to automate all AWS supply chain planning. We are responsible for tactical decision making such as data center operations, demand fulfillment, replenishment, as well a long term decision making like inventory management, network design and others. The solutions we develop are scalable to sustain rapid AWS growth, and also flexible to support the evolving AWS supply chain.

To build supply chain planning and forecasting systems that can sustain and accelerate AWS growth, the automation research group is looking for smart and motivated research scientists. As a research scientist in the group, you will own parts of the supply chain planning, and will work with product, SDE and BI teams to build and deploy scalable solutions. You will use your experience in optimization, statistics, and simulation to design planning models as well as policies, simulate their performance, and evaluate their impacts to cost, reliability, and speed of our supply chain network. This position requires superior analytical thinkers, able to quickly approach large ambiguous problems and apply their technical knowledge to identify opportunities for further research. You should be able to come up with a problem definition and scope based on business and product team needs, build solutions that fit within the broad architecture, test and integrate the models, and aid and monitor the transition of the product into operation. Successful candidates must thrive in fast-paced environments which encourage collaborative and creative problem solving, be able to measure and estimate risks, constructively critique peer research, and align research focuses with the Amazon's strategic needs.
