Principal Design Technologist

DESCRIPTION

The Shopping Design team is looking for a Principal Design Technologist to help us establish CX prototyping as a core capability that will help us shape and define our design strategy for shopping experiences. You will be part of a cross-functional team of designers, design technologists, and researchers, responsible for creating prototypes that illustrate key pieces of functionality, and that inform product and feature decisions by answering questions about the design, usability, feasibility, and desirability of proposed customer experiences. You'll work closely with design, product, and engineering partners to translate conceptual ideas into interactive prototypes that can be used to quickly test hypotheses and enable swift concept validation. As a Principal Design Technologist, you will lead and be responsible for large, wide-impact prototyping projects. You will have the freedom (and encouragement) to experiment, improve, invent, and innovate on behalf of our customers.

Responsibilities

· Actively lead concept and design ideation as part of a cross-functional team, aligning teams across the organization toward friction-free customer experiences and coherent technical strategies.
· Bring clarity to complexity by probing assumptions, illuminating pitfalls, and fostering shared understanding.
· Identify and tackle intrinsically hard problems. (e.g., highly complex, ambiguous, undefined, with less existing structure, or with significant business risk or potential for significant customer impact).
· Rapidly build and iterate on functional prototypes that express design intent, using the best and most appropriate tools and techniques for the task.
· Partner with engineering to ensure that interactive techniques and technologies translate through to shipping products and services.
· Be able to work creatively through and around perceived limitations and/or challenges imposed by the delivery platform to create delightful experiences for customers
· Lead large, wide impact DT projects. Examples could include a specific tool or feature that crosses many disparate areas of the site or product line.
· Lead others and set direction in the face of ambiguity
· Participate in annual planning and end-to-end design process

Desired profile

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

· BS in Computer Science or related technical field, or 7 years of relevant work experience
· 7+ years experience as a key member of a design team participating in the complete product development lifecycle of successfully launched applications
· Experience with web, mobile web, and mobile app front-end development
· Demonstrated ability to quickly learn and apply new technologies
· Portfolio of work that demonstrates how you have used technology to create design solutions
