The Amazon Search team builds the largest shopping search engine in the world. Whenever a customer searches or browses using an Amazon website or application, we connect them to the products and services they are looking for. The Search Data and Machine Learning Engineering team designs, builds, and operates distributed infrastructure and applications to process and analyze the petabytes of data that flow through Amazon Search. Our systems power research, train machine learned models, deliver ranking data to our production systems, and provide customer insight into Amazon's retail business. Our data powers live-site features, including search suggestions, query understanding, spelling, search result ranking, and personalization. We are located in downtown Palo Alto, a short walk from numerous shops and restaurants, and right across from the Cal-train station.

The Amazon Search Data and Analytics Team is looking for a passionate and solution-oriented Data Analyst to implement analytical solutions that deepen our collective understanding of customers, influence innovation, and deliver actionable insights to accelerate the growth and effectiveness of Search worldwide.

For this role, we're looking for an experienced analyst to join our central analytics team, which is focused on business intelligence, data quality, and governance and enabling business teams throughout Amazon to utilize Search Data to deeply understand our customers and business.

This position requires a deep quantitative domain expertise along with the ability to manage internal and external stakeholder teams. You will be responsible for delivering key insights from the search business, including the development of core KPIs and metrics, partnering to design appropriate delivery mechanisms, analyzing and providing guidance on search trending data, with a keen focus on data quality and completeness.

At Amazon, you will be working in one of the largest and most complex data environments in the world. Though this position is embedded within the Search Data and Analytics team, you will work cross-functionality with economists, data engineers, business analysts, and other business intelligence engineers across the broader Amazon organization.

The ideal candidate will:
· Create and maintain the logic and processes to support trustworthy and efficient consumption of business data.
· Develop mechanisms to discover, monitor and improve data quality and completeness of Search Data.
· Investigate data sources across Amazon and expand existing search data infrastructure, identifying opportunities to expand our modeling and customer obsession efforts
· Identify, develop, manage, and execute analyses to uncover areas of opportunity and present written business recommendations that will help grow the search business internally and for partners worldwide
· Identify opportunities for developing new data sources and provide technical leadership around making those data sources high quality and broadly available
· Identify and partner with development teams to improve data quality.
· Develop a thorough understanding of customer behavior and external business drivers to inform decision making
· Analyze key insight trends and build models that predict customer behavior, using a balanced approach of statistical and business-focused methods Deliver automated metrics and KPI's into search QBR and MBR rhythms
· Represent Search Data with partners WW regarding business analytics, search performance related inquiries, and data delivery

Desired profile

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

Basic Qualifications
· BS/BA Computer Sciences, Math, Statistics or related field
· 3+ years of professional experience in data modeling / advanced business analytics
· 5+ years of SQL and experience with efficient processing of large data sets
· Experience in designing and building data infrastructure/automated reporting tools
· Experience in data mining (SQL, ETL, data warehouse, etc.) and using databases in a business environment with big data technologies and large-scale, complex datasets
· Experience in advanced business/customer analytics
· Comfortable giving definition to ambiguous problems, can do this independently with limited guidance
· Verbal/written communication & data presentation skills, including experience to effectively communicate with both business and technical teams
