DESCRIPTION

Amazon's Legal Department is looking for a talented lawyer to fill the position of Corporate Counsel, Payments, based in Amazon Japan's headquarters in Meguro, Tokyo. The position reports to an experienced Senior Corporate Counsel.
You will serve as the primary attorney to several payment business teams in charge of gift cards, points, and other payment methods. Principle duties include counseling the business on a broad range of contractual and regulatory matters in the payments space. The candidate will work closely with outside counsel and the company's cross-functional payment teams located in Seattle, Tokyo and elsewhere.

The successful candidate will structure, draft, negotiate and advise on a wide range of matters from standard commercial contracts, to complex, high value transactions and cutting-edge payment initiatives; provide day-to-day corporate and business law counseling; administer and resolve legal issues that arise in existing commercial relationship; and provide legal review of new product features from a regulatory compliance perspective.

Experience working in payments is preferred. Competence in a broad range of corporate and business laws is required. Occasional international and domestic travel may be required, but will not be a significant part of the job.
Compensation is based on experience and includes equity compensation (RSUs).

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

· At least 5 years' legal experience at a top law firm and/or in-house legal department of a multinational company.
· Bilingual in Japanese and English.
· Competence in a broad range of corporate and business laws, especially in commercial transactions and regulatory compliance.
· Extensive experience and strong skills in drafting and negotiating contracts.
· Extensive experience in analyzing and responding to regulatory and compliance matters.
· Excellent ability to analyze and assess business processes, spot issues and propose/implement solutions.
· Ability to function autonomously yet communicate laterally and upwardly with ease.
· Ability to demonstrate sound legal and business judgment in ambiguous situations.
· Excellent interpersonal skills to effectively communicate and coordinate complex issues and projects with diverse levels of employees and management.
