Role Purpose

· The role of the GCS AWS Solutions Architect is to develop solutions designs & blueprints aligned to the banks standards, policies and technical defaults. The Solutions Architect will work closely with the AWS Product Manager, AWS DevOps engineers and the wider Global Cloud Services team to design scalable, performant and compliant platform solutions which are consumed by all HSBC Global Businesses / Functions. The Solutions Architect will also work closely with Amazon to provide subject matter expertise in the development of AWS cloud standards.

Key Accountabilities

Impact on Business

· The AWS Solutions Architect will be accountable for:

· Solutions architecture design for AWS platform services

· Reviewing implementation of platform services to ensure alignment against design

· Leading the development of global AWS architecture patterns, blueprints and standards

· Working closely with security and compliance teams in the development of patterns and solutions

· Leading the architecture governance approvals for new AWS services

· Maintain a view of the AWS roadmap and review changes made by Amazon to understand the impact to HSBC hosted services

· Research and development of new cloud services to improve performance, security and efficiency of AWS hosted services

· Maintaining a Global AWS Service Catalogue which shows the approval status of AWS services

· Reviewing Global Business/Function project designs to ensure alignment against globally defined patterns, blueprints and standards

· Providing architectural approval for new projects onboarding to AWS

· Represent the GCS AWS team in global architecture forums

· Providing ad-hoc consultancy where required to projects using AWS infrastructure

Qualifications :

Knowledge & Experience / Qualifications

·  The ideal candidate for this role will have the below experience and qualifications:

· Experience of working as a Lead DevOps engineer or an AWS Solutions Architect

· Demonstrable experience working with AWS in an engineering or architecture capacity

· Demonstrable experience of designing AWS solutions using a combination of cloud native, 3rd party and on-premise technologies

· Demonstrable experience of infrastructure build and configurations of a variety of AWS services including EC2, Lambda, S3, databases (e.g. RDS, DynamoDB) and VPC configurations

· Demonstrable experience of designing cloud networks (VPC & subnets)

· Demonstrable experience of facilitating solution design workshops

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to discuss technical detail with business stakeholders

·  Essential Skills

§ Min 4 Years demonstrable experience working with AWS in an engineering or architecture capacity

§ Min 2 years experience working as a Lead DevOps engineer or an AWS Solutions Architect

§ Experience of developing Solutions architecture designs in tools such as MS Visio, Lucidchart, Draw.io etc.

§ Experience of working in an Agile and DevOps environment

§ Experience of building and implementing enterprise-wide architecture principles, standards, blueprints and patterns

§ AWS Certifications – Solutions Architecture

§ Enterprise architecture qualifications (e.g. TOGAF, ZachMann)
