Job description

Airbus Defence and Space SAS

Airbus is a global leader in aeronautics, space and related services. In 2018 it generated revenues of € 64 billion and employed a workforce of around 134,000. Airbus offers the most comprehensive range of passenger airliners. Airbus is also a European leader providing tanker, combat, transport and mission aircraft, as well as one of the world's leading space companies. In helicopters, Airbus provides the most efficient civil and military rotorcraft solutions worldwide.

Our people work with passion and determination to make the world a more connected, safer and smarter place. Taking pride in our work, we draw on each other's expertise and experience to achieve excellence. Our diversity and teamwork culture propel us to accomplish the extraordinary - on the ground, in the sky and in space.

Job Description

Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) provides an accurate mean of positioning anywhere on the globe. In particular, GPS, Galileo or GLONASS satellites can be used to provide improved aeronautical navigation services such as precision approaches. Other system, like EGNOS, can improve the performance and the integrity of the position computed by the user. A new generation of European SBAS (satellite-Based Augmentation Systems), EGNOS V3, has been launched, and is design, develop and validate by Airbus DS. The ADS team is also involved in the new version of Galileo ground segment.

The goal of the internship is to work on the algorithms inside the Orbit Determination and Time Synchronisation chain (ODTS), a major chain of the EGNOS and GALILEO system.

You will first assess the different algorithms solutions that already exist in the litterature, and then propose an innovative solution to meet the expected performance for the system. You will prototype these new algorithms, and perform a first analysis of their performance.

More precisely you will:

- Design algorithms of orbit determination and flight dynamics for GNSS satellite.

- Prototype (Matlab or other) the selected algorithms, using if necessary existing library.

- Develop (C/C++, python or java) the prototype for a first assessment of real time performance, and compare to existing solution.

- Write documentation : algorithm description, algorithm design justifications, algorithms performance test reports.

You will integrate a team of passionate navigation engineer and experts, who are working at the core of nowadays major navigation system.

Required knowledge/background

·  Knowledge of space mechanics, orbit determination.
·  Solid background in Applied mathematics (Optimization, Estimation, statistics)
·  Solid background in Matlab and C/C++
·  Background in GNSS measurement processing (orbit/clock and/or ionosphere modelling

This job requires an awareness of any potential compliance risks and a commitment to act with integrity, as the foundation for the Company’s success, reputation and sustainable growth.

By submitting your CV or application you are consenting to Airbus using and storing information about you for monitoring purposes relating to your application or future employment. This information will only be used by Airbus.
