Tasks & accountabilities

Avionics functions on helicopter platforms assist the flight crew in conducting a safe flight by providing relevant flight and environment information in real-time. The information provided allows the flight crew to build a realistic picture of the current situation and use it in their decision making. Classical avionics functions are reactive, deterministic and designed to work reliably within the given margins. However future missions demand a higher level of automation and decision-making capability from the onboard systems in order to relieve pilot from mundane and routine tasks. Machine learning can be a potential enabler to achieve these goals. The internship will focus on setting up a basic demonstrator including computational tools, hardware, software and imaging sensors to investigate the use of machine learning applications for obstacle detection and scene interpretation.

Your exciting tasks:

·  Review and benchmark machine learning techniques and associated infrastructure
·  Architectural design of including database management, sensor suites and computing platform suitable to Airbus Helicopter needs
·  Practical realization of the architecture of a camera-based obstacle detection and identification system
·  Demonstration of video image identification using learning based algorithms
·  Documentation and presentation

Required skills

You offer:

·  Registered student (m/f) in the field of engineering or similar
·  Very good knowledge in programming, computer hardware, embedded systems, image and video processing
·  Advanced German
·  Good English
