Description of the job

A vacancy for a Galileo Satellite Navigation and Safety Engineer (m/f) has arisen within Airbus Defence and Space in Ottobrunn.

The successful applicant will join “Navigation Products/GNSS Performance”.

This job offer is also suitable for career starters / university graduates.

This position is for the time being limited to one year.

Tasks & accountabilities

What can you expect?

You will contribute to the ongoing deployment and exploitation phase of the European satellite navigation system Galileo as well as the definition of the future second generation of Galileo with a high responsibility for system analysis, performance, assessment and integrity aspects. You will join the Airbus Navigation Department.

With more than 60 engineers and 20 years of experience it is one of the leading expert groups in Europe for the development and implementation of the European satellite navigation systems EGNOS and Galileo.

Your exciting tasks:

o Contribution to the definition, implementation and characterization of Galileo, the European satellite navigation system
o Engineering of new Galileo services for Safety-of-Life support, Advanced RAIM and high accuracy applications
o Consolidation of system definition, fault trees and feared event contributions as well as engineering of underlying system and sub-system requirements and functionalities
o Contribution to system Reliability, Availability, and Safety modeling (RAMS and IFMEA)
o Detailed assessment, modeling and simulation of system algorithms to derive the expected end-user performance
o Trade-off analyses for different solutions and implementation options
o Assessment, justification and balancing of performance and reliability budgets
o Support to definition of transition concepts from the active Galileo architecture towards the next generation architecture

Required skills

What are we looking for?

o You are educated to Master's degree in Engineering such as such as Applied Mathematics, Navigation, Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Telecommunication, Physics, Geoinformatics, Geodesy or equivalent
o You have a deep understanding of Safety-of-Life applications and corresponding end user constraints as well as Advanced RAIM concepts
o You have a deep understanding of GNSS user receiver data processing to retrieve a positioning solution and receiver integrity algorithms
o You have an understanding of GNSS ground monitoring data processing
o You have shown experience in describing and modeling of statistical processes in particular for error propagation analyses
o You have knowledge of one or more of the following standards: RTCA DO-229D, ICAO SARPS Anx 10, ISO-26262
o You do understand systems engineering processes with requirements management and review gates
o You have shown experience in writing engineering software in C, Python or Matlab
o You have demonstrated ability to analyze complex technical problems and define innovative solutions
o You have shown good analytical skills and a systematic approach to solve complex tasks
o Your Teamplayer-mentality is one of your assets, furthermore you have shown experience in working with international teams and collaborative working style
o You like European mobility
o Your English language skills are on negotiation level, German Language skills would be considered as a plus
