Description of the job

An exciting opportunity for an Aerodynamics Engineer has arisen in Airbus Filton. The job holder's mission is to:

o Design air vehicle external shapes and provide comprehensive aerodynamic models and data on performance, handling qualities and loads in steady and unsteady mode. Ensure that optimised aerodynamic solutions and data are delivered to customers on TCQ (time, cost, quality)
o Answer to aerodynamics program specification by developing & maintaining technologies, methods and tools and skills, knowledge and competencies relative to the Aerodynamics disciplines and all support activities or expertise required to meet the Programmes overall design and major components or systems integration needs throughout their life cycles

Tasks & accountabilities

Key Activities within the Role:

o Aircraft level Aerodynamic assessments
o Aerodynamic analysis utilising CFD, windtunnel & flight test methods
o Collaboration across project teams and disciplines to achieve an aircraft level understanding of flow physics and modelling
o Provide Aerodynamic support to airlines ensuring aircraft utilisation is maximised
o Provide Aerodynamic support to manufacturing plants to ensure that Aerodynamic standards are not compromised, whilst maintaining an efficient and optimised manufacturing process
o Research and contribute to the Aerodynamic design and assessment philosophies of the future through innovative thinking and challenging the status quo

Tasks

o Contribute to the achievement of all vehicle projects aerodynamic and flight performance requirements within prescribed time, cost and quality objectives
o Ensure that optimised aerodynamic solutions, shapes, models and data are delivered, to programmes and to component integration centres
o Develop expertise in the appropriate use of numerical and experimental aerodynamic prediction tools
o Acquire and develop aerodynamic technologies in a manner consistent with the Company Strategy
o Link with external research community in the field of Aerodynamics and multi-disciplinary air vehicle design and optimisation
o Link with all disciplines relevant for physics of flight, such as structures, loads, stability & control, massproperties, etc.

Required skills

As the successful candidate, you must be able to demonstrate the following:

Essential skills / experience

o Masters in Aeronautical Engineering – First Class honours or equivalent
o Early career level of industrial experience (3-5 years)
o An understanding of testing techniques, simulation techniques and their implications (for example CFD, wind tunnel testing, flight testing…)
o Inquisitiveness to question and challenge the status quo
o Aptitude for complex problem solving and innovation
o Excellent communication and presentation skills and fluency in English
o Ability to technically lead other team members or sub-contractors operationally on a given project in the international environment
o Team player with a strong customer focus
o Willingness to travel internationally
o Experience in the use of coding languages (specifically Python & Matlab)
o Experience in the use of big data analytics
o Experience in using CATIA
o Desirable but not essential skills : knowledge of systems engineering and systems development
