Description of the job

A vacancy for GNSS / VBN Navigation system engineer (m/f) has arisen within Airbus Defence & Space in Toulouse. The successful applicant will join the department Attitude and Orbit Control system (AOCS) / Guidance Navigation and Control (GNC) Advanced Studies in Toulouse (TESOA3).

The Advanced Studies navigation engineer is in charge of the design of new Navigation systems, GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) & VBN (Vision-Based Navigation) to cite but two, for Earth Observation, Telecommunications, Navigation, Science, Landing & Rendezvous. The successful candidate should be willing to invest himself in gaining expertise of advanced navigation filters and associated object oriented prototyping tools.

Tasks & accountabilities

Within this context, you will be in charge of the following activities for both satellite system studies & technological Research & Development studies/contracts:

- Characterizing GNSS performance & robustness within a navigation system in different mission cases, assessing feasibility on functional simulators
- Defining, analyzing and developing innovative on-board modelling of GNSS measurements
- Iteratively deriving navigation system (and potentially AOCS/GNC functional chain) requirements & architecture from mission needs, environment, spacecraft characteristics and equipment performance.
- Defining and designing GNSS-based (or vision-based) on-board navigation systems for new space missions: architectures, algorithms, actuators and sensors
- Validating new concepts through an adapted approach (full simulation, prototype / Engineering Model development and tests, Software/Hardware In-the-Loop) and coordination with other engineering entities (on-board software, mechanical & electrical design, simulation tools, image processing team, etc).
- Performing R&T and supporting transfer to industrial development phases by adequate H/W prototyping for future GNSS, hybridized or purely Vision-Based navigation chain.

Required skills

You have an Engineering diploma or a Master's degree with a specialization in Space and/or Automatic Control, with an experience in a similar position in the avionics/GNC field, in GNSS navigation software in particular.
You also have skills in all/part of the following technical fields:
- Automatic control and signal filtering/processing basics: knowledge or willingness to learn advanced stochastic filtering methods is a must,
- Knowledge of navigation, system design & real-time implementation
- Space flight dynamics basics
- Knowledge of object oriented programming for modelling and functional simulation

You are able to adapt to fast-changing contexts/requirements while maintaining technical quality/focus, and are able to rapidly identify key design drivers and synthesize recommendations.
An advanced level of English and French is required for this position. You have the following qualities:
