Status: Temporary, Full Time (12 months)

Position Overview:

The position of Operator III in R&D will be responsible to safely execute R&D activities from building to testing cartridges in a laboratory setting, which includes supporting any tasks involved within research and/or development of novel assays. Phlebotomy may also be required to support experiments across all platforms in research and development (Immuno, Core and Coag), including fingerstick samples.

Responsibilities:

  • Abide by, promote and participate in Health and Safety activities, procedures and practices at the workplace. May be required to train others on procedures and/or processes.
  • Follow experimental and/or lot traveler instructions to perform tasks to completion.
  • Perform tasks associated, but not limited to, cartridge building and/or testing, which includes any related supporting activities (e.g. gather consumables, processing wafers, picking chips, printing on wafer or bases, loading analyzer software, component inspections, labeling components, run cartridges and/or analyzer simulators, inventory control, sample/solution preparation, etc.)
  • Operate equipment and/or reference instruments and participate in documentation control of these and related processes. May be required to assist with performing equipment PMs and/or troubleshooting as well as train others on procedures and/or processes.
  • May be required to perform Phlebotomy to support experiments across all platforms in research and development (Immuno, Core and Coag), including fingerstick samples. Current certification with the Ontario Society of Medical Technologist is an asset.
  • Perform Lead Hand or Team lead roll on specific projects or tasks, when required.
  • Knowledge of GLP and GMP are an asset.
  • Responsible for compliance with all applicable Corporate and Divisional policies and procedures as well as maintain accurate records for experiments, including verification.
  • Other miscellaneous duties as may be required

Required Skills & Abilities:

  • Outstanding customer service, capable of multi-tasking and an excellent sense of prioritization are key for success in this position
  • Soft skills: Tactful, polite, respectful, professional, pro-active, passionate, positive attitude and meticulous.
  • Computer skills: MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access, OneNote), SQL applications is an asset.
  • Phlebotomy: Current certification with the Ontario Society of Medical Technologist is an asset.
  • Capable of leading projects/assignments to completion as well as solve problems independently.
  • Capable of delivering results on time and to completion, as well as present data to management team.
  • Ability to plan, organize and prioritize own daily work to meet established schedule.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and trouble-shooting skills.
  • Detail-oriented and ability to multi-task.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills as well as ability to work in a team environment.
  • Knowledge of GLP and GMP are an asset.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Minimum: High School Diploma or equivalent experience.
  • Phlebotomy: At least 5+ years of recent experience.
  • Significant relevant work experience (3+ years) in a lab and/or manufacturing environment
  • Solid understanding of EHS and phlebotomy practical applications.
  • Experience in a regulated environment is an asset.
