JOB DESCRIPTION:

In Ireland, Abbott has five business units, represented across eight sites. The Abbott Diabetes Care division based in Donegal Town is currently going through a significant expansion as we introduce new technology and machinery to manufacture the Libre Freestyle Sensor which is revolutionary in the care and management of Diabetes as part of that expansion we have an immediate requirement for an Application Database Support Engineer.

Requirements of the role include;

  • Provides specialized systems knowledge on Abbott platforms.
  • Directs the work of technical, programming support for both less experienced staff and contractor resource. Participates in the technical evaluation of assigned staff and in the identification of development needs.
  • Provides day-to-day support service where necessary including problem resolution and coordination of operational activity relative to job scheduling, including the provision for out of hours support if necessary.
  • Devises data verification methods & standard system procedures, leads the systems testing, prepares program test data, tests and debugs programs.

Main Responsibilities include;

  • To project manage small to medium sized projects.
  • Support continuous process improvement and innovation.
  • Oversee project intake for resource allocations.
  • Assist in evaluating new requirements and recommend new processes and standards and appropriate
  • Troubleshoot and solve problems with existing systems quickly and completely. Responsible for diagnosing the problem, impact analysis and implementing a solution to prevent future problems.
  • Assist in defining standards, guidelines, best practices and metrics.
  • Provide 24x7 on-call support as part of rotating team coverage.
  • Participate, as requested, in the Information Technology strategic planning process.
  • Collaborate with all interested parties, gather requirements and provide recommendation for application standards and architectural design.
  • Responsible for ensuring Application Development work contracted out by the IT department to individual contractors or a company is delivered on time to full specification.
  • Responsible for the smooth transition (to customer services, infrastructure and / or end users) and rollout of any selected off-the-shelf packages including any configuration, modification and documentation required to meet our specific business needs.
  • Responsible for ensuring adherence to the company standards on documentation for both quality and non-quality systems either within the SLC process or otherwise, including compliance with applicable Corporate and Divisional Policies and procedures.
  • Accountable for developing basic bespoke solutions to applicable coding standards and the appropriate selection and use of the required application language / platforms.
  • Accountable for escalation support for applications delivered and / or supported by the IT department and the interface to third party or CIT support.
  • Responsible for maintaining an overview of IT applications and maintaining an Application Portfolio and ensuring license compliance.

Education;

  • 3rd level qualification in Computer Science and or Maths

Training and Experience

  • Experience of on-time delivery of either off the shelve solutions or basic in-house developed solutions, working with project teams to identify the users needs and design the basic application model.
  • Experience of working within an IT environment and contributing to a Software Development Lifecycle.
  • Possess the ability to conceptualize and think creatively.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills in a persuasive but patient manner.
  • 3+ years of Oracle Database experience
  • Experience in large enterprise database environments, as well as solution delivery methodologies gained through a combination of formal training and progressive work experience
  • Experience working in a regulated environment
